A massive European cohort study of 500,000 participants over 20 years has found that moderate coffee drinkers (3-4 cups daily) live an average of 3 years longer than non-drinkers, even after controlling for lifestyle factors.

The Findings

Coffee consumption was associated with 20% lower cardiovascular mortality, 15% lower cancer mortality, and 25% lower risk of Type 2 diabetes. Benefits were seen for both caffeinated and decaf.

The Mechanism

Researchers believe coffee's 1,000+ bioactive compounds, particularly polyphenols and chlorogenic acids, provide powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects that protect against chronic disease.
