Portillo's, the iconic Chicago-based restaurant chain known for its Italian beef sandwiches and Chicago-style hot dogs, announced plans Monday to open 15 new locations across California, Oregon, and Washington by the end of 2027. The aggressive expansion marks the company's biggest push into the Pacific Northwest market.
The first wave of openings will include locations in Los Angeles, San Diego, Portland, and Seattle, with construction expected to begin this summer. CEO Michael Osanloo said the company has seen overwhelming demand from West Coast customers who discovered the brand through social media and food tourism.
Portillo's currently operates over 90 locations across nine states. The chain has maintained its cult following by sticking to its core menu while selectively adding new items. Analysts note the expansion comes at a challenging time for the restaurant industry, but Portillo's strong brand loyalty and efficient operations position it well for growth.
