Registered dietitians are warning that common breakfast habits may be the reason so many people crash by mid-morning. The biggest offender is relying on high-sugar cereals and pastries that spike blood sugar without providing sustained fuel.
Other energy-draining mistakes include drinking coffee on an empty stomach, skipping protein entirely, eating too little overall, and choosing juice over whole fruit. Each of these patterns leads to rapid blood sugar fluctuations throughout the morning.
The ideal breakfast combines at least 20 grams of protein with fiber-rich carbohydrates and healthy fats. Eggs with avocado toast, Greek yogurt with berries and nuts, or a protein smoothie all fit the bill perfectly.
